Advice and Links for E-Learning
At the beginning of the summer term 2020 e-learning proved to be challenging for students. Those who haven’t gathered any experience with e-learning yet need orientation regarding new tools, applications and possibilities.
There are tutorials for most e-learning tools, that provide a quick overview for beginners. Here you can find some examples for common tools:

Here you can find some links to unseful hints and tools for e-Learning and online collaborative working:
- On e-teaching.org (german website) you can find a list of useful e-Learning tools (not only for students).
- This tool case of „Medien in der Schule“ (media in school) presents a variety of online collaboration tools. Eventhough these tools and teaching scenarios are tailored to the specific requirements at schools, they may as well be applied in universities.
- This broshure of the TU Hamburg explores the topic of self study using digital media and might be of most interest for STEM-subjects. (p.18ff).
- The e-learning blog of the TU Darmstadt informs about unseful tools for students.
- Information about collaborative Working with fellow students can be found on OpenOLAT. This includes: forum, peer to peer chat or group chats, portfolio team work, wiki, project groups, blog and podcast, commentary and rating tool and interfaces for digital classrooms.
The central library of Kiel University offers a variety of e-learning information. These include video tutorials and teaching material about scientifc writing.
The new situation of online teaching and learning also raises some legal issues; surrounding e.g. privacy or examina. Some answers can be found here:

- Annual Reviews
- Cambridge University Press (free access collection)
- Cochrane Library (free access during corona crisis)
- Duncker & Humblot „First Aid Access Service“ (publisher offers free access for a limited period)
- Digital collection of the ULB Darmstadt
- Microbiology Society offers all their journals for free due to corona crisis.
- Projekt Muse grants free access to digital ressources during corona crisis.
- The SIAM Epidemiology Collection can be accessed for free for one year. The SIAM Journal on Mathematics of Data Science elongated the free trial period throughout this year.
- Further information for students of the Kiel University about the reecent situation are provided on the central librariy’s website.
